We are days away from kicking off what will hopefully be the first and last virtual Boy’s State for New York’s American Legion Department. Although it’s disappointing not to be in person, we will make the best of it. There won’t be the flurry of activities, the marching and sports and music and other activities but the core lessons about good governance and how the American political system works will still be the heart of what the citizens of Boy’s State learn from the experience this year.
The counselors will be arriving Saturday morning and we hope to test fire the virtual environment that afternoon and go live the following morning with the first assembly. I am excited to see how the week goes, and if I have learned anything over the last 10+ years the citizens will make it work.
If you are going to be a citizen I look forward to seeing what you accomplish next week. If you are a parent or acquaintance of a citizen we look forward to sharing our story. Keep an eye on this website for more information about how we will share the story. I’m hoping to share on facebook and instagram next week. More to follow.
It will be a great year! An educational experience!
