The first day of New York Boy’s State 2022 began with a 0500 wake up. Marines instructed PT (Physical Training) and then citizens went to breakfast. Breakfast was pancakes, bacon, hash browns, eggs, cereal, fruit, and cinnamon rolls. Citizens returned to barracks and continued their respective city and county elections. Positions such as city mayor, councilmen, city clerk, county sheriff, and state trooper representatives were voted on. The mayors also appointed other positions for their cities such as Chief of Fire, Policemen, and Commissioner of Public Safety.

Later in the morning the Boys had an assembly where current New York State Assemblymen and former Boys State and Boys Nation delegate Colin Schmitt spoke. He shared his story about his experience at Boys State and Boys Nation as well as some lifelong lessons and opportunities.

Overall the citizens of New York Boys State are off to a great start learning how to hold elections, new drill movements, and the expectations of the US Marines.
